Honk!is a festival of activist street bands in Cambridge and Somerville The three day festival brings brass bands from all over the United States and the world for a celebration of community, activism , and music—and my goodness, is it a fun parade! The Honk 2017 parade hosted street bands, as well as activists, community groups, and artists marching for a range of progressive causes (immigrant rights, economic justice, protecting the environment, world peace, racial justice, etc.) There is also a day of action, when bands convene to play on a behalf of a cause. This year, bands circled Boston’s South Bay Detention Center, where ICE holds immigration detainees. More photos here.
